Stained & Discoloured Teeth - Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration. Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. Most dentists perform tooth whitening. Whitening is not a one-time procedure.

A bleaching product contains peroxides that help remove deep and surface stains on your teeth, actually changing the natural tooth colour.

For a teeth whitener to be really effective, it needs to contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as an active ingredient. (Only peroxides remove both surface and deep stains, whereas whitening products like toothpastes and gums can only target surface stains.)

We offer 3 x different types of whitening at Aura Dental:

Philips Zoom! home teeth whitening kits are a safe and convenient way to get your smile noticeably whiter in one to two weeks. You'll get professional, affordable results with little to no sensitivity.

Why choose a Philips Zoom! take-home teeth whitening kit?

You apply our take-home whitening kits yourself, meaning you can get whiter teeth when and where you want.

To ensure you have a safe and comfortable experience, all our home teeth whitening treatments start with a consultation with your dentist. They will prescribe the best whitening kit for your teeth, and answer any questions you may have. Then you'll be fully armed with the knowledge to safely and effectively whiten your smile at home.

What happens during my whitening consultation?

When you book your appointment, tell the dental practice that you're interested in a Philips Zoom! whitening treatment. When you arrive, you'll be asked what sort of treatment you want. Perhaps you want the fastest results? Or something that's extra gentle on your teeth? Or if you're not sure, simply ask your dentist what they recommend.

If you are prescribed a treatment that uses mouth trays, your dentist will make you a customised tray that fits perfectly to your teeth and gum line, so you get safe and effective results.

With Philips Zoom! in-practice teeth whitening, you can unlock a smile up to 6 shades whiter in just 45 minutes. The added bonus? You get outstanding results with little to no sensitivity.

No wonder millions of people have already trusted us with whitening their smiles.

Why choose Philips Zoom! in-practice whitening?

When you choose in-practice teeth whitening, stronger whitening ingredients are used to safely complete your treatment. The result? Instantly brighter teeth, with little to no sensitivity.

Enlighten Whitening

Enlighten combines at-home and in-practice whitening for the best results. What makes Enlighten unique is that it is the only system to guarantee Vita Shade B1 – the whitest shade on a regular dentist shade guide. And this applies to anyone, no matter your age or the existing shade of your teeth. This is great news for people who like their tea and coffee or red wine, as Enlighten will reduce staining and whiten beyond any other system.

Enlighten uses ¼ less hydrogen peroxide than the standard whitening methods. Instead it increases the tooth's permeability to oxygen, to break down staining and discolouration. Enlighten is an innovative tooth whitening treatment which achieves a whiter, natural looking shade without being painful.

Although Enlighten uses proven science and advanced technologies, it uses materials that have been established in dentistry for more than a century. Since its whitening gel contains a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the treatment won't damage your tooth structures or your gums.

Enlighten whitening is extremely effective, giving long-lasting results of around 3 years or more with the right care.

How it works

In your consultation your dentist will take impressions of your teeth so that they can be made into custom moulds. These will take a couple of weeks to be made in a lab, then you'll need to schedule in a second visit to collect them and learn how to use your home whitening kit.

Your home whitening treatment will involve you filling your moulds with the Enlighten whitening gel and wearing them overnight, for two weeks. After the first week, you'll need to switch to a stronger gel for the top whitening results. If you do feel sensitivity, you can use Enlighten's anti-sensitivity toothpaste to minimise discomfort.

Once you've completed the take home treatment you'll finish off with a 40-minute in-practice whitening from your dentist. The end results will leave you with teeth up to 16 shades lighter depending on your preferences.

You new bright smile can be topped up at home, as you can wear the trays for one night every other month. Enlighten also provides an expert Tooth Serum which can be used when brushing your teeth, to keep your smile looking dazzling.

If you have staining on some of your teeth or if you are self-conscious about the shade of your teeth, professional teeth whitening treatment is a safe and recommended option for you to consider. For a successful in-house teeth whitening treatment:

  • Your dentist will assess you for the type of staining your teeth have.
  • A custom tray will be made to fit snugly over your teeth.
  • The teeth whitening process is then activated by a bleaching agent, which is inserted into the custom tray that transfers it onto your teeth.

Home teeth whitening kits are also available to lighten the teeth more gradually. In this case, the trays with bleaching agent can be worn overnight. With all whitening treatment, individual results will vary and are dependant on your initial tooth colour and the nature of your tooth staining.
