Ask many adults what they would change about their smile and they reply "straighter teeth". Crooked teeth may cause you to be embarrassed about smiling in public. They can have a perceptible impact on your self-confidence and your social and business interactions. At Aura Dental, we offer a range of treatment options for adult patients who want to straighten their teeth.
The branch of dentistry concerned with the alignment of teeth is known as orthodontics. When many people think of orthodontics, they picture traditional metal wire and bracket braces commonly worn by teenagers. While these are an effective and popular treatment, adult orthodontics patients can be understandably put off by the idea of wearing obvious metal braces for an extended period of time. However, there are a number of discreet options available for adult orthodontic treatment.
Our principal cosmetic dental surgeon, David Tissera, has successfully treated more than 500 adult orthodontics patients, and we have a wide range of discreet orthodontic and non-orthodontic treatments available to correct crooked teeth. The best treatment for you will depend on your individual circumstances and the amount of correction needed, which can be discussed at your initial consultation.
Six Month Smiles are clear braces that can correct mild to moderate problems with tooth alignment. They use tooth-coloured wires and clear brackets for maximum discretion and, as the name suggests, have an average treatment time of just six months. They work so quickly because they focus on the front teeth – those that show when you smile.
Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that gently move your teeth into a new position. Each set of aligners is individually made to fit your teeth, and you will need to change your aligner every two weeks as your teeth move. The aligners are removable so you can take them out to clean and to eat.
The Inman Aligner is a single clear aligner that contains special nickel titanium coil springs and bows to create gentle opposing forces in the mouth. These forces are active over a large range of movement and gently guide your teeth into a new position. The aligner is removable but should be worn for 16-20 hours a day, and average treatment times are between six and 18 weeks.
CFast braces quickly and discreetly move your teeth into a new position using tooth-coloured brackets and wires. This minimally-invasive treatment can improve the alignment of the front teeth in the top and bottom jaws and can also level and round out the arches. Average treatment time is just six months.
For a single crooked tooth, we may advise non-orthodontic treatment options. Porcelain veneers and crowns can in some cases be the most effective way to disguise a crooked tooth, and treatment takes just two to three appointments.
